In today’s khutbah, brother Sohail made an analogy on Allah’s guidance. It was simple yet meaningful for me. It goes like this. Let’s say a person wanna go to the Indy Airport from West Lafayatte. Of course this person is new to West Lafayette. So, he stop at a gas station and ask the cashier at the register for directions. Without hesitant, the cashier gives him proper directions to reach Indy Airport. Turn right into the State St, go straight till you reach I65, so on and so forth.
After the guy has gone, the cashier thinks it might be a good idea if he makes copies of direction to the Indy Airport and distributes them to all the people who come to the gas station. Yup. We’ll definitely call him a crazy guy. It just a simple logic. Isn’t it? A cashier at a gas station will not give directions to reach certain point to a person who is not asking for it.
si A: awang, mu ning bile gok nok beruboh?
si B: hidayah dok sapa lagi la ke aku pok.
First and foremost, I’m not denying the fact that Allah the Almighty can bestow his guidance upon anyone He wish. There are lot of verses in the Quran mentioning this fact. But for me, it is a disappointment to hear a person gives such excuse for not making any change in his/her life. Please la.. You not even asking for a guidance from Allah. How could you claim Allah is not granting you His light? InsyaAllah..if we make sincere doa, Allah will show us His way and make it easy for us to change. In fact, we call for His guidance at least 17 times a day (if and only if you are aware that you are calling for it when you make your solat).
“Sesungguhnya kamu tidak akan dapat memberi petunjuk kepada orang yang kamu kasihi, tetapi Allah memberi petunjuk kepada orang yang dikehendaki- Nya, dan Allah lebih mengetahui orang-orang yang mau menerima petunjuk.” (Al Qashash : 56)
I end this entry with a commentary by Ibnu Qayyim on verse no 69 of Surah Al-Ankabuut. According to that verse there is a connection between guidance and jihad as jihad is another mean to ask for guidance from Allah. This commentry is taken from the book Purification of the Soul by Jamaludin Zarabozo.
“And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right” (29:69)
Allah has connected guidance with jihad. The people who have the most complete guidance are those who make the greatest jihad. The forms of jihad which are most obligatory upon a person are the jihad against the soul, jihad against the desires, jihad against the Satan jihad (being overcome by this) worldly life. Whoever strives against these four for the sake of Allah, Allah guides him to the paths that are pleasing to Him, leading to His paradise. Whoever abandons the jihad would lose a corresponding portion of guidance based on how much jihad he failed to perform. One cannot fight the external enemy unless one fights these internal enemies. Whoever is given victory over them will be given victory over his external enemy.
